I am so pleased for you that you get to stay in your building. My building was told that our dual language program would be collapsed and that students currently enrolled would have the choice of staying in the building without DL or transferring to one of the other schools offering the program. Parents raised such a fuss (especially the ones that had already turned down talented and gifted placements to keep their children in the DL program) that the school board restored our program...after the DL kindergarten teacher dropped her retirement papers and the DL 1st grade teacher accepted a position in another school. Fingers crossed that we will be able to hire two new DL teachers before the school year starts.
Best wishes to you as you return to 6th grade. Those students are lucky to have you.
It feels like coming home - love this! Can I ask how you are scanning your books or how Don is? My youngest got a job teaching 7th grade ELA and we/she has lots of books to organize.
Woo hoo! This will be my 5th year 6-8 and I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy working with 6th graders! It’s okay to feel nervous…but I’m confident you’ll love it!
I am also returning to the trenches after being retired for six years. I offered to work with a small group of sixth graders to start. I hope to instill a passion for reading once again. Independent reading time has gone by the wayside, and I know it is the missing piece for literacy growth. Of course, I’ll be following you and your expertise once again.
LFG!!!!!
I love reading your journey
